I heard today there have been some cars broken into recently. Does anyone know any details?

I heard about that too, right before I left work yesterday. There have been at least 2 break-ins in the west parking lot. There's a security camera back there, and management was able to see a car with 2 guys inside that they think are responsible. Unfortunately they weren't able to see a license plate. That's all I've heard.
I have to confess I'm a tiny bit amused by how some supervisors have been parking in the west lot, so they have just a short walk to the door that the vending & custodial people use. Now it turns out that's probably the worst place to park. Not actually wishing for anyone's car to be broken into, though.

Honestly that's really scary. There are always people outside the rec, smoking, going to their car, or just outside to walk...what's to stop these people from trying to mug someone?
If a car isn't unlocked breaking into it is both loud and a hassle. It would probably be quicker to try and rob a person. And of course we have NO building or parking lot security, and our building is in an isolated industrial area. And apparently our cameras suck.
Makes me nervous.....

The security situation makes me nervous too. I work tour 3, and if I can't get a parking spot near the building, I at least try to park underneath a light.
I always roll my eyes when they tell us in the safety talk to "challenge anyone without a badge." Are you kidding me? I'm not a security professional. If I see anyone who looks like a threat, I'm heading *away* from that person to find a supervisor. I'm not going to be anywhere near a confrontation.

Yeah, I just saw it in this week's safety talk too. It said something like, "Challenge someone you see without a badge. They're probably harmless, but you don't want to take chances." So... challenging someone who is dangerous isn't taking chances? LOL

Huh. I wonder why it's not common knowledge that there are break-ins occurring on that side of the building?
I have been parking there after a fellow employee demolished my bumper during the December OT madness. And after I received a $30 parking ticket for my bumper sticking out a few inches past the newly installed no parking signs while parking curbside.
Who is the employer across the street? Around 3pm, quite a few of their employees saunter in to our back lot, socializing and smoking and causing traffic jams. I know we're not allowed to park in their lot - why are they allowed to take up the front spaces in ours?

It's my understanding that no one from the surrounding businesses is allowed to park in our lot. Management might not be aware of the problem, you may want to let the resource center know what you are seeing.
I don't know why the whole REC hasn't been informed of the break-ins. Vandalism and break-ins have occurred periodically for as long as the REC has been open, management should definitely keep us more informed.

I've been informed about break-ins before via safety talks, but that's been a while. Do you have any idea what kind of break-ins are occurring? Are they rifling through unlocked cars, smashing windows, or jimmying locks?
Are they happening on Tour 1 or 2 or 3?
